Lincoln Park Pool Project Wins Awards

The Lincoln Park Pool Replacement project in Albany has been awarded the American Public Works Association's (APWA) NY Chapter – Capital Branch Award and the APWA NY Chapter Award for Project of the Year in the historic renovation/preservation category for projects costing between $25M to $75M.

The project was led by Weston & Sampson as the architects, with MH Professional Engineering providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design. Together, the team helped breathe new life into one of Albany’s most iconic community spaces.

A Fresh Take on a Local Landmark

The new pool complex replaces an aging municipal facility with a modern, family‑friendly destination. It now includes a zero‑entry pool with spray features, a 10‑lane lap pool, splash pad, water slide, playground, restrooms, and several pavilions.

Mechanical Systems That Hold Up

Pool environments are tough on equipment, so durability was a major focus. We designed corrosion‑resistant ventilation for the 1,700 ft² bathhouse and 2,000 ft² filter building, along with domestic water, hot water, and sanitary drainage systems. Everything was planned for full winterization to avoid freeze damage and simplify off‑season maintenance.

Electrical Systems Built from Scratch

The project required a complete electrical service upgrade to support new lighting, mechanical systems, water features, and site amenities. Our work included site‑wide power distribution, dedicated circuits for pool equipment and treatment systems, and an expanded fire alarm system. A new grounding loop ties together fencing, gates, metal structures, and aquatic features to keep the site safe.

Lighting, Controls, and Communication

High‑efficiency LED lighting, occupancy sensors, emergency lighting, and clear exit signage help visitors navigate the site safely. We also extended the public address system to the new bathhouse and outdoor areas, improving communication for both daily operations and emergencies.
