MH Professional Engineering is serving as the lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineer for a roughly 4,000-square-foot event space comprising a lounge area, dining and living room, group room, kitchenette, and patio spaces.
The new, state-of-the-art facility, named Hilary’s House, will be located on the campus of Horizon Village in Sanborn, New York, and will serve as a tribute to Hilary Grace, a Buffalo woman, who in 2017, lost her battle with substance abuse at the age of 27.
The Hilary Grace Foundation partnered with Horizon Village to spearhead this project in order to pay tribute to Hilary as well as help so many others fighting with addiction and mental health disorders. Horizon Village is Western New York's largest treatment center for those battling substance abuse.
As part of the project, MH Professional Engineering provided lighting design for the space by working closely with the architect, and designed exterior walkway lighting to connect several of Horizon Village's adjoining properties.
Also provided were data, cable TV, access controls, and handicap operators. The space is heated, cooled, and ventilated using a ground-mounted rooftop air handling unit that is concealed by a custom louvered wood structure.
Tightly coordinated ducting mimics the roof pitch to allow the ductwork to disappear from view behind roof rafters. Plumbing fixtures were designed to provide a high-end residential feel.
Hilary's House will be available as a place for both patients and their families to come together.
